The Dam Race, Fontana Dam, NC

Looking for a change of scenery and being in the company of runners, we decided to run in The Dam Race 10K about 100 miles from Asheville. This was a low key smaller race that offers a 5K and 10K  fairly flat course along the shores of  the historic Little Tennessee River below Fontana Dam in the Great Smokey Mountains...

Neither of us have been feeling in the mood to actually race lately, so our goal today was to explore a new area and put forth a steady run. A couple of things that drew us to this event were the flat course along the river and the two out and back sections. It's always fun to see runners of all abilities on these loops.  There's so much more interaction among the participants when we're able to see each other.  We can cheer on the fast runners as well as the not so speedy runners plus mix in the 5K runners along with the 10K runners and well, what can we say, It's just fun! One thing the morning had in store for us that we didn't expect was the humidity, but at least we had cloudy skies, and the temperature was in the mid 60's at the start.  Otherwise, it was a picture perfect day.

On the way home, on a tip from a friend, we stopped in beautiful downtown Main Street Sylva, NC and had brunch at Guadalupe Cafe, a Caribbean-inspired tropical-fusion, farm to table eatery.  In this little town, who would have guessed it.  Great place to eat, so we want to pass this tip on to you...
