12th Annual DuPont Forest 12K Trail Race

You know it's gonna be a great day when you walk out the front door and the first thing you see is a rainbow!  Today we headed to DuPont State Forest for the 12th Annual DuPont Forest 12K Trail Race and did we have fun!
The 7.4 mile race, sponsored by Jus' Running, was for the benefit of Friends of DuPont State Forest. Bart enjoyed competing in the race, and I got to be cheerleader /race pic taker! I even was able to jog a couple miles for the first time since injuring my back. It really was a great day!

DuPont State Forest is a beautiful 10,000+ acre tract of land located in the Blue Ridge Mountains between Hendersonville and Brevard, North Carolina.  There are beautiful mountain top views, pristine lakes, several magnificent waterfalls and nearly 100 miles of multi-use trails and roads widely used for many recreational activities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, swimming, wading and kayaking.  Scenes in the movies Last of the Mohicans and The Hunger Games were filmed here.

The morning began with lots of rain and thunder, but just before the start of the race, the clouds broke, and the sun began to shine down on all the runners.  The race started right on time at 10a.m. beginning and ending at Guinon Farm. 235 runners completed the muddy, mostly double track and forest road course.  This was a well organized event, course was clearly marked, one water stop was provided at the half way point, and plenty of post race goodies.

If you missed this years race, mark it on your calender for for next year.  This is one race we highly recommend!  Hope you enjoy the pictures...

  1. It's my second time running this race and I truly enjoy it. We sure got lucky with the weather this year. Mud is fun, and well, better than last year's conditions.
Side note, I'm laughing right now because my husband and I stood right in front of you during the award ceremony (I'm wearing the blue short with the race shirt, husband is wearing the green fleece).

    1. Hi TRChick! We couldn't believe how the clouds broke and the sun started shining just before the start of the race. Gotta admit, we were nervous during the warm-up with it pouring down and thundering. Just goes to show ya that you never know what the weather is really going to be like. I'm glad we didn't skip the race and sleep in that morning! It was a beautiful day! We'll keep an eye out for you and your husband at future races. Ummm, if you both wear the same clothes, we might recognize you from the back :-) If you see us, please stop and say hi. We would love to meet you both! Happy Running!

  2. Were you wearing the Mountain Goat shirt?
I'll try to memorize the picture for next time :)
I think I would have been ok even if it had rained, at least it was fairly warm but the sun was even better of course.
Next local races: Biltmore Kiwanis 15K in May and probably the Chamber Challenge in June. I might look into the Rock 2 Rock but not sure yet.
