One event we really look forward to is the Cooper River Bridge Run. Six of our family members meet up in Charleston, SC for a mini vacation/family get together, and we all have the same goal, get up and over the bridge! ok, plus site seeing, eating great food and having fun together!
The Cooper River Bridge 10K run/walk is a point to point race from Mount Pleasant to the heart of Charleston, SC. The race is capped at 43,000 regular entries and 1,200 charity entries. From the starting line to the foot of the bridge is 2 miles, up and over the bridge is 2 miles, and approximately another 2 miles to the finish. The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is 200 feet high and the slope is 4%. The bridge offers dramatic views of Charleston and the surrounding areas. The bridge links Mount Pleasant with downtown Charleston and has eight lanes plus a 12 foot lane for pedestrians and bicycles.
One of the things we love about this race is that we are able to have the race pack mailed to us for a $10 fee. This gives us extra time to spend with family and not have to fight the crowds at a packet pick up location. This years race packet is the best. Here's what it looks like!
The black square package is what is mailed to you (left in photo) That package, when you turn it inside out, converts into a light weight backpack (right in photo). You get your t-shirt, bib which has the timing chip embedded into it, towel, coupon for food, and a USB card (bottom center) that you plug into your computer and get all the race instructions.
This years race is sold out for regular entries, but if you want to join in on the fun, there are still some charity entries available for $150! We are looking forward to a fun filled weekend, and sharing with you some of the highlights of our trip.
Happy Running!
Eve and Bart
