Irish whiskey and running through the cow pasture

The conversation went something like this...

Bart, "My grandmother told me many years ago people would drink Irish whiskey when they started feeling the first signs of a cold, and that she came across an article that stated 'modern science had proven that Irish Whiskey would not cure the common cold'.  My grandmother said, 'modern science hasn't cured the common cold either, so I'll stick with Irish whiskey'."

..."Well I was reading the other day that Ellagic acid is a natural antioxidant found in numerous fruits and vegetables which help fight inflammation and infections and strengthens the immune system. Ellagic acid is a phenolic compound which is also derived from tannin in barley."

..."Ellagic acid imparts a pungent and astrinent quality into whiskey.  Balvenie malts which is a single malt are especially known for their high ellagic acid content, and Irish whiskey is a single malt whiskey and is made primarily from malted barley, so you see, my grandmother was right."

Me, "Well there you go."
