Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

It's that time of the year again when everywhere we turn some one's coughing, sniffling or sneezing!  Although there are no guarantees to prevent catching a cold, washing your hands regularly and getting a daily dose of  Vitamin C has been shown to improve your odds. We want to do what ever it takes to help us stay healthy, active and enjoy running through the cold season. Our favorite way to get our Vitamin C is by making fresh squeezed orange juice.  Here's how we have progressed through the years in making our OJ!
We first started off making fresh squeezed orange juice with this little gadget! The orange juicer "thing-a-ma-jig".  Very simple to use, just stick it in the orange and squeeze! Only thing is it takes a long time to make a glass of juice and your hand is usually sore afterwards...

Next we progressed to the manual juicer. Slice the orange in half, put it on top, press and twist.  Works good, but again, it takes some time to produce a glass of juice and sore hands afterwards...

about a year and a half ago, thanks to Bart's daughter, we moved in to the electronic age, and we were given the Citri Star! The basics are still the same, slice the orange in half, put it on top and push.  The machine does the work in a fraction of the time as the manual methods... Yummy and no sore hands!

...and that's how we juice it!

Orange juice quick facts:
Depending on the size of the oranges, it takes 3-4 to make one glass of juice as pictured above.
1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice = 103% daily nutritional value based on USDA Nutrient Database SR18.

Here's to your health and staying healthy!
