While rummaging through the gel and energy product shelves at out local running store, Foot Rx, prior to an evening run, we came across something called the “Stinger Waffle” by Honey Stinger. The Foot Rx staff gave the waffle such a glowing recommendation that we ate one right on the spot. We then immediately bought every Honey Stinger Waffle they had in the store. The Honey Stinger Waffle is one of those products that we would label “excellent” or “our favorite”....
The Stinger Waffle was inspired by the Dutch 'stroopwafel" found in northern Europe. It comes in four flavors; chocolate, honey, lemon and vanilla. We have eaten the ‘Stinger Waffle’ prior to and during long runs/races, and we can highly recommend them as something solid to eat when gels and water begin to lose their appeal. Each waffle contains 160 calories or almost twice the punch of a typical gel. While on the run, we usually eat half a waffle at a time and have yet to have had a problem downing the entire content when several hours into a long run.
We recently had the opportunity to sample several Honey Stinger products (protein bars, energy bars, energy chews) in a myriad of flavors and found them all to be extremely satisfying and easy on the belly.

I have been curious about those waffles! Thanks for reviewing, I think next time I see them I will pick up a couple.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered about these. Do they "pack" well? Seems like they would crumble easily.

We keep them safe in our running packs or waist packs with only minor edge crumbling, but I think if they were in our back pocket while running, they would end up in a million pieces; although, we would lick out every crumb from the package anyway :-) I have even started taking them to work for a mid day snack also ~Eve
