Start of DuPont 50K all race photos available through Christopher-Graphics.com |
We are happy to say we were able to complete our third 50K distance at the DuPont Forest 50K on Sunday October 7th, 2012. Here's a brief recap for you...
Sunday was a perfect day to be out for a long run. We couldn't have asked for better weather. Starting temperature was 54 degrees and dropped to 50 degrees by the finish. We had done all of our training and tapering as planned, but as usual, life sometimes throws you some curves. Two days before the race Eve had to start a ten day round of antibiotics which left her feeling not the best on race day. The race itself went well until mile 18 where the aide station attendants informed us they were completely out of fluids (this station served as aide for mile 20 also). This left us without hydration from mile 15.5 to mile 25 of the race. That's the way it goes sometimes. You just got to make due and stay within yourself. Otherwise, it was a great day. We both got to meet some amazing runners. We even met a couple of guys who came down from Canada to participate in a Triathlon training camp and decided to jump in on the 50K!
Bart completed the race 6:06 and Eve finished 6:46
Thanks Lydia and Art for all the work putting the event together. The course was very well marked and beautiful. Congratulations to every one who participated and a big thank you to each and every volunteer who helped out. Now we are looking forward to training for the Tsali 50K in January and then it'll be the Biltmore Marathon in March. We didn't bring along our camera, so we were fortunate to have race photographer Paul Christopher snapping some shots along the way, so we have some to share with you.
