Two Marathons for Asheville in 2013

Calling all marathoners! For first time marathoners, veteran marathoners and all our friends in the 50 states marathon club, here's your chance to run a marathon in Asheville, NC!  In 2013, Asheville will have not just one marathon but two! This news makes us :-)

Marathon #1
Asheville Marathon on Biltmore Estate, March 3, 2012
The marathon is run entirely on the scenic grounds of the Biltmore Estate.  Biltmore is America's largest and most esteemed private residence and has 8,000 acres of meticulously-tended gardens and forest.  Runners will be able to climb along the main road and make a loop past the main entrance to the house, enjoy the beauty of the Walled Garden, Azalea Garden, lagoon, French Broad River and vineyards.  This race is limited to 1,300 runners and will sell out fast.

Marathon #2
Asheville Citizen-Times Marathon, September, 2012
The 13 year old Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon will expand to include a full marathon in 2013.  Race director, Greg Duff does not have an exact date selected yet, but is expected to be in September, 2013.  The half and full marathons will be held on a Saturday, with a 5k run/walk held on the Friday evening before.  All three races will take place downtown.  The total field is expected to be 8,000 runners, with a cap of 6,500 half and full marathon runners and 1,500 runners in the 5k event.  Race organizers and city officials are working to finalize the three race courses.  The half and full marathon course will continue the tradition of a North Asheville route and will include West Asheville and the scenic French Broad River.  Course routes are expected to be released this summer and registration for the 2013 races will open on Sept. 15.
