While we were out on one of our favorite trail runs at the North Carolina Arboretum, we ventured slightly off the path to check out an open area near a stream when we spotted what we thought was some trash mixed in with fallen tree trunks. Oh man, we hate to find trash left behind, and we usually take it with us to properly dispose of it.
Taking a closer look, we realized it's not trash at all. It's a geocache...
Cool! We followed the instructions...
Checked out the little treasures inside...
Signed the book...
Put it right back where we found it, and off we went on our merry way!
It wasn't until we got home and pulled up their web site did we learn what a geocache is. Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coorinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at the location. This was kind of fun finding it all on our own, and next time we pass that way, we will take along something to add to it for others to enjoy.
Happy treasure running!
