When trying to decide where to go for our run today, we thought, hmmm 5 points in Bent Creek would be a nice destination. It's been sometime since we took on the climb to 5 points, but we felt up for the challenge. It's not that it's an extremely steep climb, it's just long and continuous, and well worth the trip. The weather was in our favor, so off we went. We parked at the main entrance parking lot of the NC Arboretum. We took Bent Creek Gap Road to Lake Powhatan. Feeling adventurous, we climbed down to the creek below the Dam to take a look at the Dam from the bottom....
After checking out the Dam and looking for fish, turtles, frogs, and other forms of life, we continued past Lake Powhatan where there were lots of people fishing off the pier and swimming at the beach. The beautiful weather enticed many people to come out and play...
To get us off of the service road, we took Boyd Branch Trail-664 which is an excellent singe track trail. Next we made a right on to Sidehill/Boyd-145 and then a left onto Ingles Field Gap-150. This was our steepest climb of the day to reach 5 points...

Time to turn around and head for home. Once we were back in the arboretum, we took a little time to enjoy listening to the creek...
Stretch out on a bench and look at the sky...
and admire the new ferns that have recently popped out of the ground to start their lives...
No matter where you are, never forget to take a few minutes to look around and check out the beautiful world we live in...
Happy Running!
